TangoMetaWiki

TangoMeta is my attempt to build a wiki for tango that covers “what is happening in and around the tango community”: who is doing what? Which projects and initiatives exist, who runs them, which teachers, DJs and schools are active — and, in the list of tango blogs, who has been writing about all of it. The tango web is scattered and ephemeral; the wiki is meant to be its memory.

Technically it is a Semantic MediaWiki install, so every entry carries structured properties (website, author, start/end years) that can be queried — the blog list alone tracks thousands of posts across hundreds of blogs, with structured data instead of prose.

Tango knowledge disappears — resources die with websites and organizers who move on. One concrete housekeeping idea I have been circling around: a Python script that checks the blogs in the wiki against archive.org, as yearly “tango cultural heritage” maintenance (more on that) — archive.org already does much of it, which is good news. The wiki is not edited daily, but the structured data keeps it useful, and it feeds ideas into TangoAtlas.
